Simplicity

Ambergris Caye obviously holds no monopoly on growth and development. Though it seems at times it's in a race to lead the charge.  The island is transforming at an astonishing rate. Sand streets and wooden cabanas are quickly being replaced by pavement and 5-6 story concrete buildings.  You can get stuck in traffic jams in town.  Seawalls have replaced beaches.  Trust we know if we complain, we sound like curmudgeonly old men.

That said, RPPC recalls a simpler time on the island.  Natural vegetation has been preserved everywhere possible, including on the beachfront.  Guest cabanas will be simple, comfortable, wooden airy structures (note the future tense, we’re building them as we speak.)  There will be a main lodge building with a lounge area, dining area, a well stocked bar and prep kitchen.  A proper bbq area and palapa/hammocks will round things out.

The camp is off grid, powered by a 48v solar set up built around a bank of 5,000 lbs of Hoppecke batteries.  What this might lack in bells and whistles is made up for in dependability.  Think the “slant-6” of the solar world.   Diesel backup will be installed for cloudy days.  Freshwater is provided by a combination of rain catchment and desalination.  Purified drinking water is in ample supply.

We'll have a fly tying area and lounge with a well stocked library…  And while there is internet and reliable cell service, the camp is an ideal venue to stow devices and escape scrolling and swiping for a while.

And most importantly, we've already filled the first spot for camp dog! Meet Bella!!! (you can call her Belly.)
